Lancashire garden centre to become live music venue

Approval has been granted for Plans to turn a garden centre near Preston into a live music venue outside of its normal trading hours.

Duxbury's Garden Centre in Whitstake applied to the local council for a license to play live and recorded music and now permission has been provided, the transformation project is underway.

Normally, the garden centre closes at 5:00pm but the new license will see the venue keeping its doors open until 10:00pm.

Some concern has been expressed about the potential levels of noise at Duxbury's, but the council is confident that any disruption will be minimal. Speaking on behalf of a council panel, a spokesperson said:

"There was evidence, for example, the licensing objective of public nuisance may be undermined, there was as yet no evidence that it had actually occurred and that conditions could be put in place to address the balance.”

The success of the new music venue will depend very much on local people getting behind the venture and attending events. Duxbury's could boost attendance by working with a printing company in Preston to produce promotional materials, such as Flyers and Posters.

Preston already has a buzzing live music scene with several venues in the city, but there is still demand for more in the area. The owners of Duxbury’s are expecting to host a number of regular events featuring all kinds of local and touring musicians. More information can be found on the venue’s website.
