Full fibre broadband to come to Preston

The extension of full fibre broadband is underway in Preston.

Homes and businesses across Preston should benefit from the distribution of full fibre broadband. The operation could cost £30 million. Printing services are useful for explaining projects like this, especially when there may be a degree of disruption.

Telent is tasked with the construction work under discussion, working on behalf of CityFibre. A partnership approach is designed to include local communities and Preston City Council. This should help to ensure completion of the scheme by 2024.

Steve Thorpe of CityFibre said:

“I’m immensely excited and proud to see work getting underway in Preston today. This is the start of an exciting new chapter for the city as it gets ready to thrive in the digital age.”

Thorpe assured locals that interruptions to any services would be short-lived, and that the advantages connected with the new network should last for decades.

Peter Moss, a local councillor, noted that the pandemic experience had underlined the value of the internet. Moss stated that the initiative would future-proof Preston’s network.

Full fibre broadband goes far beyond offering easy access to entertainment, giving individuals and enterprises the opportunity to become much more productive. It enables high-speed uploads and downloads, while providing reliable connectivity. Instead of using copper, full fibre broadband relies on fibre optic cables.
