Flats to be built on site of former mill in Preston

A large number of brand new flats are to be constructed at a site in Preston that used to be home to a mill, before it was destroyed in a fire decades ago.

The planning committee for Preston City Council came to a unanimous decision to green light the proposals for this development. It will consist of over 100 new flats and will be built close to Fylde Road, on a stretch of rough land where the mill previously stood. This facility was burned out back in the 1960s and the site has been mostly disused ever since.

Some other facilities in the nearby area, including an office and retail block on three storeys, will also be demolished to enable the flats to be built. This was formerly home to a car rental business, but no company has occupied it in over 10 years.

When housing developers complete new schemes like this one, they sometimes turn to brochure printing outlets in the local area to help them showcase the homes to potential buyers.

The flats that will make up this development will be spread between two blocks that connect to each other. The front sections will be four storeys high, with 10-storey middle sections and eight-storey back ones.

There will be 52 one- and two-bedroom flats, plus four bigger ones with three bedrooms.
