What's Happening in Preston, England…

Empty Preston building to become creative hub

An empty building in Preston that used to be home to a printer is set to undergo a transformation, with plans to turn it into a multi-use creative centre.

This building is situated within Bolton’s Court, close to Church Street. It was formerly home to Snapes Printers and was constructed back in 1858. Now, it has been taken over by Jeremy Rowlands, a man who is based in Preston and who owns several local hospitality businesses. He has announced plans to carry out conversion work on the building, so that it can be made into a creative centre.

When this work has been completed, the building will house a mixture of studios for workshops, retail spaces and offices. The top floor will be turned into a large space for hosting events – including live performances and exhibitions.

Speaking to Blog Preston, Rowlands stated that:
“We are currently restoring the building, with minimal intervention where possible. Fixing all the wonderful wooden windows, restoring features.”

The building became available during 2024, when the owners of the print works opted to retire. Thankfully, there are other print shops in Preston that can supply individuals and businesses with what they need.

A local photographer called Joe Gudgeon is taking pictures of the conversion process, capturing some of the Victorian-era remains for posterity.

The creative centre will open with an exhibition early next month.
