Centre stage for the event in the St John’s Minster at Church Street was taken by Preston Musical Comedy Society’s Bruce McLaren, Lea and Endowed School Choir, and the Company of Voyces Choir.
Proceedings got underway at 7pm, beginning with a rousing rendition of Once in Royal David’s City, before continuing with carols like While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks, Away in A Manger and O Little Town of Bethlehem.
However, the highlight of the evening was the German language rendition of Silent Night, in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the start of World War One.
Services of this kind frequently make use of printing companies in Preston and other, similar areas, to provide the Posters and Flyers letting people know when they are taking place.
The service was led by Preston vicar Timothy Lipscomb, who told the Lancashire Evening Post:
“This is something that people always look forward to. They ring me up asking when it is going to be. Sometimes it’s people’s only experience of the Christmas story and it gives them an opportunity to be nostalgic, sing carols and sing their hearts out.”
Among those attending the service were Councillor Margaret McManus, Preston’s Deputy Mayor, and the leader of Lancashire County Council, Jennifer Mein.Get a Free Quote for Flyers Get a Free Quote for Posters
