Volunteers in Oadby to be celebrated at event

People who live in Oadby or the wider borough and who sacrifice their free time to help their communities are to be honoured at a special event organised by the council.

This event is to be called Celebration of Volunteers. Oadby & Wigston Borough Council (OWBC) will be putting it together for its 50th anniversary, and the authority recently asked its residents to nominate those they think deserve recognition. This can be anyone who lives within the borough and who works on a voluntary basis to improve the area for everyone else.

There will be a total of three different awards handed out during the event. The categories are ‘Community Organisation of the Year’, ‘Volunteer of the Year’ and ‘Young Volunteer of the Year’. Nominees in the last category must be 21 years of age or younger.

Brocks Hill Country Park in Oadby is set to serve as the venue for the awards evening. It seems likely to attract plenty of nominations and interest, but the organisers of one-off events like this can use poster printing services if they want to ensure they get attention.

Nominations were submitted through the official OWBC website. Samia Haq from the council had previously urged everyone to nominate someone they thought was a suitable candidate.

This awards night is scheduled to take place on Friday, 29 November.
