Marks & Spencer is currently in the process of looking at potential sites where it could launch supermarkets – and one of the possibilities is Oadby. The company wishes to grow its food business by around 50% and sees expanding its supermarket chain as the way to do that. Hundreds of towns and cities throughout the country are being considered, with Oadby just one of several in the Leicestershire area.
What Marks & Spencer is seeking is sizeable pieces of land, in the region of 18,000 square feet. This will enable it to open large supermarkets that offer people everything in its current food range.
When new retail outlets first open in the town, they sometimes look to Oadby shops that can provide them with Promotional Products. These can be produced at low cost and then given away to people, as a form of advertising.
According to the Leicester Mercury, Marks & Spencer issued a statement saying:
“As M&S reshapes for growth, it is opening stores with the right space in the right places as it looks to double the size of its food business and modernise its store estate.”
It is asking those with vacant land to contact it.
