A village that is just a couple of miles outside Oadby is set to benefit from funding to the tune of £1 million, as part of an agreement between property developers and the local council.
Great Glen will receive a total of £1.1 million through Section 106 agreements. These are part of planning applications and require property developers to provide funding to balance out the impact of their projects on local people. The money in this case will be used to carry out a number of improvements throughout the village.
This means the village hall will get a comprehensive makeover and a brand-new pavilion will be constructed. When it has been completed, this will be used for leisure, sports and social events.
Those who are organising such events will have local options available when it comes to promoting them. This includes shops in Oadby that offer giveaway Promotional Products that can be themed to fit an event.
The social and sporting pavilion will be built using £748,143 of the funding. The remaining £369,410 will go towards renovating the village hall, which is over 100 years old.
Phil Knowles from the council said that both of the planned improvements would make life in the village better for its residents and for potential visitors.
