Oadby could get new M&S food store

The retail chain Marks and Spencer has announced that it is hoping to open a number of new food stores at locations around Leicestershire, with one of the proposed sites being Oadby.

As part of Plans for expansion, M&S has now begun to search for suitable locations for its Simply Food stores. M&S currently has a total of 247 supermarkets throughout the UK, but it is intending to cut that number to 180 by four years from now. This will be balanced out by the launch of more food stores though, with over 100 additional Simply Food outlets opened.

Now it has been revealed that one of them could well be in Oadby. The town is one of four across Leicestershire that M&S has earmarked for a food store. The others are Loughborough, Market Harborough and Lutterworth.

According to the Leicester Mercury, a spokesperson for the company said:

“Our store rotation programme is about making sure we have the right stores, in the right place, with the right space.”

If this proposed food store does open in Oadby, the company may decide to use giveaway Promotional Products from local shops to advertise it.

The M&S spokesperson added that the company had gained confidence in its plans from the way other new stores were faring.

Potential opening dates have not been revealed.
