Complex needs childrens home could be created near Oadby

A new home for children who have complex needs could be created in a town just outside Oadby, if the local council gives its approval to the Plans.

The company that wants to set up this facility is Ortu Specialised Homes. It has submitted an application to Oadby and Wigston Borough Council for a lawful use certificate. If that is granted, the company will be able to convert a residential property into the children’s home. The property in question is situated on Northfield Avenue, in Wigston.

This is the third time that Ortu has applied to the council, with its first two applications being change of use ones. It submitted an application towards the end of last year that was rejected during December. It then tried again in February before withdrawing the application in April.

If the latest application is given the go ahead, two youngsters would be housed at the property. They would be provided with specialist support from two members of staff, who are employed on a 12-hour shift basis.

According to the application that has been submitted, the home would seek to replicate a family one, with the children leaving aged 18.
