Architects in Milton Keynes have revealed a set of ambitious Plans to turn the roof of a local shopping centre into a greenway similar to those featured in US and European cities.
These plans have been put forward by Benchmark Architects and would involve the roof of the Centre: MK building. The company is calling them ‘Rooftop: MK’ and they are based on existing designs in New York and Rotterdam. The former city is home to the ‘Highline’ rooftop park, while the latter has an outdoor staircase painted in bright neon pink.
What the company wants to create in Milton Keynes features aspects of both. It would be spread over two separate blocks within the centre of the city. The idea is to provide a mix of elevated green spaces, amenities, entertainment venues and small business facilities, linked by staircases.
Among the amenities would be allotments for local people, both for growing food and plants and for social purposes. Benchmark is citing potential benefits to the environment too.
