The sizeable mural of the memory tree is located on a wall within the organisation’s headquarters, in the Broadlands district of Milton Keynes. Its Team Manager, Ann Saunders, is the woman responsible for the skilful painting.
It marks the first time she has embarked on a serious piece of artwork since she was at school, at which time art was one of her favourite subjects. However, once she picked up the paintbrushes, she discovered that the ability and enthusiasm were still there, ensuring that the tree was completed inside two hours.
It can be seen in the Cripps Lodge base of the memory service, on a wall of the central meeting room, with Ann getting the idea of a Memory Tree from the upcoming Dementia Awareness Week. She said:
“Service users and their families have been really positive about this. They were impressed that we were remembering their loved ones. It has also added a dash of colour to this room and has made it feel more serene and peaceful.”
The organisation can always use places offering postcard printing, if it wants to be able to provide souvenirs of the mural.
