Milton Keynes welcomes DSA Conference

The Open University in Milton Keynes will host the Development Studies Association Conference 2019 at Walton Hall.

This year’s key theme is ‘Opening Up Development’ and will be focusing on new Forms of development and activism in a changing world. The proposed topics up for discussion should prove attractive to both students and professional practitioners. These include ‘Globalism’, ‘Populism and Political Action’ and ‘Cross-National Flows of Goods Finance and People’.

It will be organised in a series of lectures and sessions, such as those for early career scholars, looking at publishing, as well as an early career research plenary. The sessions themselves, taking the form of a mix of conventional panels and open conferencing events, are aimed at stimulating both new-thinking and sector-wide networking. Events such as this often use brochure printing services to collate relevant information.

The confirmed plenary speakers include Robtel Neajai Pailey from the University of Oxford, Mahmood Mamdani of Columbia University and Sheela Patel from Slum Dwellers International. Other highlights include a meeting, which is open to all members, with DSA Council Student representatives on future collaboration and a PhD Student Masterclass.

The lectures taking place in the Berrill Theatre are due to be streamed live and the presence of a conference photographer should be noted.

The Open University in Milton Keynes, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, will host the DSA Conference between 19-21 June.
