Milton Keynes to welcome folk singer

The American folk singer/songwriter, Loudon Wainwright III, supported by Katherine Priddy, is due to play a gig in Milton Keynes towards the end of September.

He hails from Westchester County New York City and developed a successful musical career over 52 years. This has included the release of 26 studio albums, up
until 2014, as well as winning a Grammy.

His early interest in the guitar led him to compose and then perform folk-orientated novelty material. He was initially signed up by Atlantic Records, who released his first, “Album I” in 1970 prior to switching to Columbia Records where he had the top 40 hit “Dead Skunk”.

Loudon went on to produce more albums in the 1970s and 1980s but failed to achieve chart success, although they did foster a strong cult following in both the UK and the US.

He has also appeared in TV and film roles while artists such as Johnny Cash and Bonnie Rait have recorded his songs. October 2020 saw him present "I'd Rather Lead A Band", a collection of classic tracks from the 1920s and 1930s.
