Milton Keynes date fixed for folk musician's show

The British singer/songwriter Ray Cooper is on tour and due to appear in Milton Keynes towards the end of April.


An expert musical storyteller and instrumentalist, Cooper began playing in bands as a teenager. After leaving Brighton's Art School, he was in the punk rock group Amazonblades, before heading for London to become a session musician, mostly on bass guitar.


Shifting between different genres led him to work with renowned producers such as Joe Jackson and Edwin Starr. Ray joined up with the Oysterband in 1988, touring worldwide and releasing a total of 19 albums. Even after relocating to Sweden in 2000, he still remained a member whilst exploring his own musical influences.


The Oysterband triumphed in three categories, notably Best Group, at the 2012 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, and subsequently performed on Jools Holland's television programme Later. FROOTS magazine described them as 'Icons Of Folk'.


In 2013, Ray decided to leave the group and, in the intervening years, built up a solid solo career. He has successfully released four albums, including his latest ‘Land Of Heroes’, as well as touring Europe and North America.
