The exhibition is the result of a link-up between the college and the gallery, and is showing pieces created by people in Woodhill, Long Lartin, Huntercombe, Grendon, Bullingdon, Sudbury, Hewell and Springhill prisons.
Its overarching theme is ‘transformation’, with a story included telling how each artwork grew from the raw materials, explaining the power that creativity has had on the lives of those imprisoned.
The deputy director of the college programme, Maxine Bennett, told MK Web:
“It is a great opportunity to not only showcase the talented artwork that has been produced by offenders, but also to highlight the positive, and crucial, role education plays in changing lives.”
The gallery will be able to call on those shops that supply postcard printing in Milton Keynes, if it wants to be able to offer visitors the chance to buy permanent souvenirs of the exhibition.
Staff from the Offender Learning programme are supervising the exhibition, as well as providing those who visit it with in-depth information about the various artworks being displayed. Those who tutored the students were given the chance to see the work that has been produced during the April the 8th launch.
