Wendy Cunningham, who is aged 59, lost her father to heart failure some years ago and also spent much of her working life at the South Bank University in London, where she lectured on the subject and worked as a nurse practitioner.
Her life changed dramatically six years ago when her father, Rob, had a heart attack. He underwent quadruple bypass surgery, followed by the replacement of his aortic valve, but sadly passed away from the problem at the age of 78.
Now this has spurred Wendy to participate in the half marathon, which will be held within Blenheim Palace grounds. All of the money raised as a result of the event is set to be ploughed back into the heart disease research undertaken by the British Heart Foundation, with the aim of finding a cure.
Speaking to One MK, Wendy stated that:
“I’m taking part in the BHF’s Blenheim Palace Half Marathon, not only because it’s such a beautiful location, but also because the BHF is a cause so close to my heart.”
