Centric Community Projects is the charity behind the scheme and it hopes it will help similar organisations based in Milton Keynes to boost their public profiles. It hopes to achieve this by providing them with cost-free premises.
One of the buildings that it has assumed control of used to be a gymnasium, but Centric plans to relaunch it with a special exhibition focusing on the themes of diversity and equality, which the MK Equality Council will be partnering in the delivery of.
Among the other buildings that will be involved are the one that used to house a bar called Cheerleaders and an ex-restaurant located in the basement of one of the buildings. Centric hopes that the latter can become a base for arts projects.
A spokesperson for Centric told the Milton Keynes Citizen that:
“We are also interested in offering the space to dance organisations for rehearsals and performances and we have already been in contact with the local dance charity, Motus, who have previously used this space and who will be working on productions for the MK@50 celebrations in 2017.”
