The Navigation Inn is situated in Cosgrove, alongside the Grand Union Canal, and was originally constructed in 1809. These days it is owned by the Oakman Inns chain of pubs and, alongside Greene King brewery, the company has opted to make a ‘destination pub’ out of it.
Work on refitting the interiors began last November and a building team of over 40 people contributed to getting it ready for its 6th of June reopening, with customers set to see the £1.5m worth of improvements.
The restaurant now has room for 85 people, with further dining space available outside within the decking area, which offers a landscaped garden and picnic tables. Other improvements include clearing fireplaces that had been blocked up, restoring stonework, the addition of a paved section near the canal, and the construction of a brand new space for car parking.
Malcolm Schooling, the project manager, told a reporter from the Milton Keynes Citizen that:
“It hasn’t received proper investment for decades. Unlocking the site’s potential is the key thing that has happened here.”
