The West End smash hit Fawlty Towers - The Play is embarking on a national tour and will arrive in Manchester at the start of November, bringing with it one of Britain’s most beloved sitcoms in a brand-new theatrical form.
Voted the Greatest British Sitcom of All Time by Radio Times, Fawlty Towers first aired 50 years ago. Now, audiences can experience the chaos and hilarity of Basil, Sybil and their guests live on stage.
The play has been adapted by John Cleese himself and is directed by Caroline Jay Ranger, ensuring that the wit, timing and eccentric energy of the original series are carried over to the theatre.
Set in Torquay on the English Riviera, the story centres on the hapless hotel owner Basil Fawlty and his long-suffering wife Sybil as they attempt, usually unsuccessfully, to manage their seaside establishment. Basil’s desperate attempts to raise the hotel’s standing only result in berating his guests and plunging himself into farcical misadventures. A cast of 18 will bring to life some of the sitcom’s most famous scenes, reimagined for the stage.
Fawlty Towers – The Play will run at the Opera House in Manchester, from Tuesday, 4 November to Saturday, 8 November. Tickets start at £37.50 and demand is expected to be high. Graphic design has an important contribution to make when it comes to the production of a stage or theatrical event like this one.
