Cycling represented with art pieces in Manchester
An art exhibition celebrating the humble bicycle came to Manchester recently, to the delight of the area’s biking enthusiasts.
The Artcrank showcase was held at 2022NQ, which is in Manchester’s trendy Northern Quarter, and was organised by Chris Verbick. The exhibit featured works from a number of established and up-and-coming artists and collectives, including Retrofuzz, a local creative agency.
Most of the work on display had been created using screen printing techniques and the original pieces were available to buy as part of the event’s opening weekend. Local art exhibitions like this often raise money by working with printing companies in Manchester to produce souvenir replica prints of artworks.
Speaking about the creative concept surrounding the exhibition, Chris said:
The Manchester leg of the Artcrank exhibition ran from July 12 and is due to visit London for its fourth annual showcase on August 24. Some of the profits made from the show will be donated to the non-profit organisation Simply Cycling, an initiative designed to bring young people together through the sport and hobby of cycling, regardless of their ability. More information can be found on the Manchester City Council website.

“One of the big ideas behind Artcrank has always been making art as accessible to people as bikes. Part of that is price — it’s pretty cool to be able offer limited edition, handmade posters for £30.
“It’s also about introducing people to the artists who live in and work in the community.”
