What's Happening in Manchester, England…

Crime writing in focus in the North West

Crime writing is being put in the spotlight at local libraries around the North West as part of an initiative to showcase the world of crime fiction.

Libraries around the North West are getting together with Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust, the organisation responsible for managing libraries in Wigan, to produce a month packed with events that focus on crime fiction writing.

The organisation has pulled together a programme of events designed to engage readers of all ages. This programme includes a bespoke crime fiction reading list featuring local authors and ‘wanted’ poster workshops for younger readers.

Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust has also arranged for guest readings by locally-based crime writers, Chris Simms and Bill Rogers. Similar library-based events are set to run throughout the year, with a different theme for each month. Events like these are often promoted using techniques like flyer and poster printing, often with the help of local printing companies.

Manchester authors Rogers and Simms are set to give readings of their work in separate sessions at Wigan, Standish, Tyldesley, Shevington and Leigh libraries.

Carole Ogden, the Programming and Audience Development Officer spoke about the programme, saying:

“Our aim is to have a different theme running through the libraries for each month of the year. We thought we’d start the year by trying something a little different. Crime fiction is a hugely popular genre and this is an exciting programme we hope will appeal to all ages.”
