Chosen One Manchester United banner set for charity auction
The infamous banner declaring David Moyes as the ‘Chosen One’ is set to do some good for other people, with the supporters behind it planning to raise charity funds by auctioning it off.
It hung along the Stretford End stand in Old Trafford during Moyes’ turbulent reign as Manchester United manager, having been created by a supporters’ group, but was taken down when the Scot was dismissed last April. He was recently appointed manager of Spanish club Real Sociedad.
Since then, it has lain in one of the stadium’s storage rooms, although the National Football Museum had previously indicated that it would like to buy the banner. Now though, charities seem set to benefit.
In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, Andrew Kilduff from the Stretford End Flags supporters’ group responsible for it, said:
Supporters of both of the city’s big football teams often make use of banner printing in Manchester when seeking new banners to display at the matches.
It is not yet clear whether the group will opt for local or national charities to receive the funds from the auction of the banner – which was produced at a cost of £450 before the start of the 2013/14 season – but the money is sure to be welcomed by them.

“We have auctioned a couple of banners in the past – we raised £2,000 for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s charity by selling one of his – so it would be nice to do something similar with the Chosen One.”
