What's Happening in Manchester, England…

Chinese investors to boost Manchester jobs

Around 16,000 jobs could be created in Manchester after Chinese investors agreed a deal to become involved in a new development at the city’s airport.

A recent announcement from Chancellor George Osborne revealed that Beijing Construction Engineering Group (BCEG International) has joined the Greater Manchester Pension Fund and Carillion, a UK-based construction services firm, to invest £800m in developing the airport.

Titled Airport City, the project will include hotels, offices, warehouses and manufacturing companies, forming the central aspect of the enterprise zone surrounding the site.

Manchester Airport was designated as the centre of the zone in the hope that it would attract businesses from overseas, while improving employment prospects in the area.

According to the International Business Times, the Manchester Airport Group (MAG) chief executive said the company is “delighted” to welcome internationally-renowned organisations as partners.

Furthermore, the group’s chief executive said that including BCEG International is important because MAG has sought to improve links with countries in the east.

The project is expected to become one of the UK’s largest regeneration campaigns since part of East London was redeveloped for the Olympics in 2012.

Venues like airports usually outsource to professional printing companies in Manchester when updating their promotional material, such as posters and flyers, to include new services and amenities.

BCEG International’s managing director, Xing Yan, said it was an “honour” to be part of such a unique and interesting development.

Manchester Airport currently offers flights to over 200 destinations around the world and sees off more than 20 million travellers every year.
