City of London to get new public square

A brand new square for the general public is set to be constructed in the City of London, and it will be the biggest such space in the area.

This square will be situated right in front of St Paul’s Cathedral and the final set of designs has now been approved. It is a project that was first revealed last year and is connected with the works to redevelop the one-way traffic system St Paul’s Gyratory. When the new public space has been completed, it will go by the name Greyfriars Square.

It will cover 3,500 square metres, making it the biggest single space for public use in the whole of the City of London. There will be new crossings created for cyclists and pedestrians, as well as two cycle lanes that run for 800 metres.

Inside the square will be a play section for children, seats, flower beds and trees. When people are devising projects of this kind, they sometimes get graphic design outlets in the City of London to create images of them.

According to Time Out, Shravan Joshi from the Planning and Transport Committee said:
“I am extremely proud that this is the biggest open space ever to be delivered in the City, which will have amenities that offer a place to rest, socialise and play.”

It should be finished by the middle of 2027.
