Residential development to replace supermarket

A supermarket in Ilford will be demolished to make room for a new housing project.

One of East London’s major Sainsbury’s branches is now expected to close and become a site for around 1,000 new homes. The iconic Ilford superstore has served locals for more than 30 years, with many people not only using it for shopping, but free and accessible parking in easy reach of the town centre.

Now, Sainsbury’s is working with property experts at Telford Homes to transform the outlet on Roden Street into a mixed-use site providing new homes, community spaces and employment opportunities.

Property developers can sometimes use brochure printing services to create informative literature for potential investors. If given a green light from Redbridge Council, the new development has promised to provide Ilford with a top-rated destination and offer a substantial number of affordable homes.

Group Land and Planning Director for Telford Homes, Jerome Geoghegan, commented:

"Our emerging vision for Chapel Place represents an invaluable opportunity to deliver much-needed quality homes for the borough and to make a major contribution to the revitalisation of Ilford town centre.”

While a date has not been confirmed for the closures of the superstore, current Plans incorporate the construction of a smaller Sainsbury’s Local as part of the new development to serve the needs of the community.
