Redbridge residents requested to shape scheme

Members of the community in the Borough of Redbridge are being asked to help with a new Council project.

The council initiative entitled the “Quiet Streets” plan, is designed to assist people to keep socially distanced, reduce air pollution levels, and make roads both quieter and safer.

Cabinet Member for Civic Pride, Councillor John Howard, commented recently:

“Everyone really noticed how much quieter the streets were during the lockdown and we want to try and keep the benefits of that. We want the streets we used to have where kids could play on the street without fear of an accident.”

While still in the early planning stages, the project will involve non-permanent traffic barriers with clear signage on them. From council planners to local enterprises, those seeking to create Signs can sometimes use professional printing services for their requirements.

Redbridge recently secured funding for its new scheme from Transport for London, who awarded the council £500,000 to kickstart its Plans.

From Ilford and Gants Hill to Barkingside and Fairlop, all residents of the London Borough will have the opportunity to get involved, with councillors now calling for help shaping their Plans in the form of feedback and a formal consultation at the end of the trial.

The first trial of the scheme is set to run until the end of 2020.
