A two and a half day long course in robotics is set to take place at Redbridge Central Library later this month.
Dubbed ‘ScrapBot Wonderland’, the event at the Ilford-based library on Clements Road invites children aged between nine and 11 to develop an interest in the field of robotics.
The course intends to inspire those attending to the joy discovered in making and inventing. Using simple programming and electronic components, along with discarded materials, participants will construct robotic creatures.
Organisers of local courses can employ flyer printing services, promoting them to the general public to amass interest and ensure a high attendance.
Young delegates taking part will be offered the opportunity to utilise the BBC micro:bit in order to command the Hummingbird Robotic Kit with its full complement of components from servos and motors to sensors and LEDs. Through these parts, they can assemble a robot based on a favoured animal of their choosing.
No previous experience of robotics is necessary to join in but young minds with a previous understanding of the Hummingbird are very welcome to expand their knowledge. Environmentally friendly, the course will display the robot creations produced at the ScrapBot Wonderland showcase with the aim of inspiring people to reduce their negative impact on our planet.
Scrapbot Wonderland will run from August 27 to August 29.
