Redbridge library remembers Second World War evacuees

A library in Redbridge is hosting a talk on children evacuated from cities during the Second World War.

Michael Potter, a historian local to the area will be sharing his personal experiences in a talk about evacuation and his childhood at the onset of war. The one-off talk will be held at the Heritage Centre on the second floor of Redbridge Library and Museum on Clements Road in Ilford. Public buildings like libraries and museums can use poster printing services to create attractive notices and attract members of the community to drop by.

Potter will step back in time 80 years to the beginning of the Second World War. During this era, many children needed to be evacuated from parts of the country considered a high risk from bombing attacks. Those attending can hear the historian discuss his childhood during the 1930s and life as one of the evacuees, including trips to the cinema on a weekly basis.

All who come to listen are invited to share their own unique stories of friends and family at a time when Britain stood on the cusp of war. Refreshments will be available at the event, including freshly brewed tea and coffee.

The talk entitled “We did not know where we were going, we knew not for how long” will take place between 2:30pm and 3:30pm on Wednesday, February 12.
