Although the developer, Weston Homes, is not even at the stage of formally submitting its application, local campaigners are already moving to stop the proposal before it gets started.
The site for development is the Tesco Extra on Goodmayes High Road, Ilford. If approval is given by the local council, the site could provide housing for around 3,000 people. Homes built, would range from one to three bedroom living spaces with an underground parking garage and a primary school.
A new Tesco supermarket is also set to be constructed, with the old store remaining in operation until it’s complete.
Opponents to the scheme state increased pollution and traffic as well as overpopulation as reasons to resist the redevelopment. Campaigners are discussing the matter formally with Redbridge Council and an online petition already bears over a thousand signatures.
Habiba Alli a campaigner from Chadwell Heath stated:
“There is an unrest in the community, people are talking about it, people are angry.”
Campaigners wanting to ensure their cause reaches a wider audience can use poster printing services to create eye-catching notices.
Weston Homes intends to submit a planning application in spring 2019 but a specific date is yet to be announced.
