Steve Harley headed to Huddersfield

One of the most successful and enduring British singers and songwriters of the 1970s will be coming to Huddersfield later this year as one of the stops on his forthcoming acoustic tour.

Steve Harley led the band Cockney Rebel during the 70s and enjoyed smash hits with songs such as ‘Come Up and See Me (Make Me Smile)’, ‘Judy Teen’ and ‘Mr Soft’. He has continued to record and perform live regularly since those days, with his most recent album being called ‘Uncovered’ and featuring solely acoustic instrumentation.

Harley will be touring in support of the album this spring, with one of the dates being at the Lawrence Batley Theatre in Huddersfield. Flyer printing shops in the town can be useful to local venues looking to promote shows.

Backing him will be his acoustic band that features Dave Delarre as lead guitarist, Oli Heyhurst playing double bass and Barry Wickens on guitar and violin.

Speaking to the Huddersfield Times, Harley stated that:

“We have real adventures on tour. I’ve seen the Northern Lights, the Midnight Sun and dozens of wonderful galleries, museums and great cities, all on my down-time. I have a great life as a Wandering Minstrel!”

The shows on the tour will incorporate both newer songs and all his classic tunes from the Cockney Rebel days. He will play in Huddersfield on 20th May.
