Huddersfield to get new school

A new school campus is set to be constructed at a site within Huddersfield, which will be for children who have additional learning needs and will be a replacement for an existing building.

Kirklees Council has given its approval to Plans for the Joseph Norton Academy to be relocated from its current campus at Scissett to a new one in Deighton. This project is a collaborative one between the council and the Wellspring Academy Trust. The main purpose behind it is to create a new campus that is larger and that has more room to expand than the present one.

This school is for children who suffer from mental, emotional and social health issues. The Scissett site only has space for 63 of them and it is hemmed in, so there is no option for increasing its size.

According to the Huddersfield Examiner, a Trust spokesperson said that:

“We are absolutely delighted with the news that planning permission has been granted. This is a significant step forward for our pupils.”

This spokesperson went on to add that the school would work alongside the council to ensure the project stays on track and provides the best possible environment for pupils.
