The Plans and the pictures that the council has released indicate a change in focus compared to earlier proposals for the market. Whereas before it had put forward the idea of creating a giant food hall there, with room for 300 people at a time, now it is looking at creating a space for live events. There would still be stalls offering food and drinks, but these would be around the edge of the space.
In addition to this main space, the new Plans also contain a Market Yard, which would be situated on Brook Street. This would contain a mix of the traditional market stalls and units that can be rented out by small businesses in the area.
If the Plans proceed, any companies that opt to move into the units would find that there are many other useful resources for them in Huddersfield. Places that can Print Business Cards are just one example.
Cathy Scott from Kirklees Council told Huddersfield Hub that:
“What we’re creating here is not just a better, more vibrant traditional market for Huddersfield but also a place the local community can come together.”
The next stage in the process will be a public consultation.
