The organisers of the annual Huddersfield Literature Festival have revealed that the 2024 event is set to see some of the readings take place inside a special Festival Tipi.
This celebration of all things literary has taken place in the town each spring for more than a decade. However, the Festival Tipi is a new addition, and it will be set up outside the Lawrence Batley Theatre. Its grand opening will be carried out by a “Dragon Queen and Dragon” (inspired by the Game of Thrones series), before it plays host to a number of activities for the duration of the festival.
Local children will be able to meet the queen and her dragon during the opening event, and many of the subsequent activities will also be child-friendly. They will include a Dinky Disco, book readings and a guest appearance by The Tiger Who Came to Tea.
Outside of these family events, the Festival Tipi will also host workshops for aspiring writers, talks by authors from the area and open mic evenings. Flyer printing from shops in Huddersfield is one option organisers of events like this may use for promotion.
The director of the festival, Michelle Hodgson, stated that it was intended to be accessible to everyone in the town, not just for people who attend festival events.
The Festival Tipi will be in place between Thursday, 18 and Sunday, 28 April. The festival runs from Thursday, 11 to Sunday, 28 April.
