Proposals to redevelop Huddersfield Bus Station have finally moved another step closer to becoming a reality, with confirmation that Plans have been submitted for approval.
This station is jointly owned by Kirklees Council and West Yorkshire Combined Authority, and they are behind the proposals to revamp it. They have put in an application for the necessary planning permission and have also released images showing what they wish to create. According to these images, the new station would feature a ‘living roof’ with vegetation and plants as well as a canopy.
The idea of redeveloping the station has been germinating for some time. There have been a number of delays and at one time it was hoped that the application for planning permission would be sent last summer. Now it is in at last and the expected cost will be £20 million, divided between Kirklees Council and the Combined Authority.
If the station is given a radical makeover, it will still need tickets, timetables and other essential items of that sort to operate from day to day. Stationery printers in Huddersfield are one of the options that local stations sometimes use.
The proposals would be carried out in two stages. The first would involve upgrading the interiors, including new floors, wall tiles and seating. The second stage would see the canopy and living roof added to the outside.
