The carnival was held in 2023, which marked the first time in five years, and this year would be its 40-year anniversary. However, the organising committee has to come up with financing to the tune of £100,000 before it can put the event on, and it is asking for donations.
The appeal is requesting local people to contribute £5 each towards the costs.
Kirklees Council provided the cash for the 2023 festival, but the local authority has already indicated that it cannot afford to pay for the event again this year. Huddersfield Carnival celebrates Caribbean and African culture and usually involves music and other activities at Greenhead Park.
Promotional Products from Huddersfield shops that can be given away and are themed around the carnival are one way that the committee could spread the word about its fundraising campaign.
A committee spokesperson told Huddersfield Hub that:
“The Huddersfield Carnival Management Committee planned and organised a successful carnival in 2023, attracting 20,000 people after a five-year absence.”
This spokesperson added that grants and donations were essential due to the absence of council funding.
It is hoped that the Huddersfield Carnival can be held again this year in the middle of July.Get a Free Quote for Promotional Products
