Building work to extend a library in Huddersfield may get underway later in the year, the group that is behind the Plans has announced.
A community group is hoping to construct an extension at Honley Library in the town and many of the hurdles in its way have now been overcome. It has secured the necessary planning permission from the council and some of the money that is needed. The project is expected to cost £300,000 to complete, with £60,000 having so far been raised by the Friends of Honley Library.
This group was originally aiming to have £100,000 in place before hiring a building firm to start the work, but is now reconsidering that idea. It is looking into the possibility of getting the first phase going with the existing funding so that work can begin this year.
The planned extension will provide the library with a brand new entrance, more spacious toilets and more room overall. When local groups are trying to raise money for community projects, they sometimes find promotional poster printing from Huddersfield shops to be useful.
Friends of Honley Library has indicated that work on the toilets and entrance would make up phase one. These are urgently needed as the library is a busy hub for the area.
A possible start date for the project has not been revealed yet.
