Archivist to deliver talks on Huddersfield history

The West Yorkshire Archive Service is hosting two talks on local history in Huddersfield at the end of June, through walking tours of the library.

Archivist Robert Clegg will deliver the lectures on the fascinating and important Ramsden collection. The Service retains historical documents covering the period from the 12th century up until the present day. This is an opportunity to go beyond the front desk, visit areas that are not normally open to the public, and experience many of the library's treasures at first hand.

The powerful Ramsden family from Longley, over a period of three centuries, played a pivotal role in shaping the development of all aspects of Huddersfield. Visitors can learn about the family and how their influence came to such a dramatic conclusion a century ago.

These events should prove to be of particular interest to those who want to discover more about local history, and archives in general, as well as the town and its past.

There is no charge for attendance but booking in advance is a requirement. Flyer printing services can help to bring community activities such as this to the public's attention.

The West Yorkshire Archive Service’s Local History Talks will take place between 10:30am and 11:30am and between 2:30pm and 3:30pm together with walking tours on Thursday 25th June at Huddersfield Library.
