Barnet Council has given the nod to a plan for the regeneration of an estate not far from Edgware, with members of the council voting in favour at a recent planning committee meeting.
This plan will see the Douglas Bader Park Estate at Colindale given a comprehensive makeover. The developers behind it are Hill Residential and Home Group and it will see 271 houses on the estate demolished to be replaced by brand new blocks of flats that will provide housing for a maximum of 753 people.
Most of the homes set to be knocked down were built as social housing back in the 1970s and a survey of people living on the estate, taken two years ago, saw over three quarters support the planned regeneration.

One of the residents of the estate, Corina Best, told the planning committee meeting that the existing homes are in poor condition, with mould, damp and damaged ceilings among other problems.
The Plans were also supported by Tim Sturgess from the Avison Young planning consultancy, who argued that they would deal with overcrowding and give residents homes big enough for their needs.
