Annelise Winter belongs to the Jewish Care’s Holocaust Survivors’ Centre and the volunteers and employees there arranged a party. Despite her age, the centenarian thoroughly enjoyed herself, before attending a further tea party that took place in Edgware and District Reform.
She stated that the day had been one of the best she could remember, topped off with her card signed by the Queen. Her niece, Sue Sylvester, told the Jewish Chronicle that:
“We would like to thank everyone for the amazing week of 100th birthday celebrations. We were invited to most of the celebrations and were quite exhausted. I don’t know how she managed.”
Originally Annelise Clara Goeritz, Mrs Winter was born and raised in Berlin – where she held a typing job. She subsequently relocated to the UK before the beginning of World War Two, where she was employed at a clothes factory in Staffordshire.
She kept this job for two years before switching to London, where she would meet the man she was married to for 42 years – Oskar – and eventually settle close to Edgware, in Mill Hill.
