The developer behind the plans is Barnet Homes, a housing firm owned by the council. The proposed houses will follow an innovative design developed by architects RCKa.
The design is called the ‘Common Home’ system and it involves using Structural Insulated Panels as the basis for the homes, with the overall design intended to reduce complexity, costs and waste in home building.
The architects state that using this system allows the design and construction of Common Home houses to be completed in weeks, at a much lower cost and using supply chains in the local area. The site for the proposed new houses in Edgware is the Broadfields Estate, and 47 homes would be built in total.
The new houses would be affordable and added to the current estate at carefully chosen spots currently occupied by greenspaces, cul-de-sacs and vacant garages. Graphic Design Services can help developers show off planned housing designs to prospective buyers.

“This is exactly the kind of project that we should be building on suburban sites to increase density and intensify existing estates.”
The new houses would be finished by 2023.
