MBE honour for woman from Edgware

A woman from Edgware, who has devoted her working life to ensuring that au pairs are able to do their jobs in safe conditions, is set to receive an MBE after she was included in the honours list for the New Year.

Sandra Landau’s work with this industry began back in 1986 and she went on to play a key role in the development of IAPA, the International Au Pair Association, which was launched during 1994. In addition to this, she was also involved in setting up BAPAA, the British Au Pair Agencies Association and a European standards committee – and it is this latter work that has seen her win this honour.

Prior to the creation of these bodies, there was very little regulation within the au pair industry, with Landau being credited with helping to ensure the safety and wellbeing of its workers.

Speaking to a reporter from Times Series, she stated that:

“I am overjoyed to accept the honour of this MBE and owe a debt of gratitude to the BAPAA board members and others who have helped with this work, both within the industry and with government.”

She added that she was delighted to see this industry honoured for its professionalism.
