Harrow Council is aiming to provide further protection for people renting private flats in Edgware, through the renewal of a scheme that requires all landlords of these properties to get a license.
The council is currently in discussions over whether to carry on with this policy, under which every private rented property in Edgware has to have one of the licenses. It enables the council to make sure that management and maintenance of these properties is up to scratch and that requirements for fire safety are met. The licenses run for a period of five years and are £550 to buy.
According to the Harrow Times, Varsha Parmar from the council stated that although the private landlords in the area were generally fine, the licensing policy was still a useful way of making sure tenants were protected and of allowing landlords to prove to potential tenants that they take their responsibilities seriously.

Parmar went on to say that the council would be canvassing opinions from local people on the Plans to continue the scheme, with both tenants and landlords set to be able to have their say on it.
