A woman from Edgware, who turned 100 recently, has attributed her long life to a mix of good quality coffee, chocolate, and an occasional glass of gin and tonic.
Valborg Coppendale celebrated hitting this milestone in the company of family, close friends, and staff from the care home for the elderly in Edgware, where she lives.
Originally from Norway, Mrs Coppendale arrived in England over half a century ago, following a period of travel, and subsequently fell in love with an Englishman.
The two got married and had two daughters, named Marit and Elizabeth, and Mrs Coppendale also now has a grandson called Frank.
Her birthday celebrations were held in the care home facility, and the special nature of this particular birthday ensured that a number of extra guests and gifts featured as part of the day.
Councillor Rayner, who also serves as the Mayor of Barnet, attended the party and presented coffee enthusiast Mrs Coppendale with a gift of some luxury coffee.
The King of Norway also sent a birthday card to the centenarian, while the cake made for the occasion had the flag of Norway as decoration, in tribute to her roots.
