Edgware could get new Travelodge hotel

Edgware could be set to get a brand-new Travelodge hotel, as it is one of five different areas of Barnet where the company is hoping to build new facilities.

This chain wishes to create new hotels at sites in Edgware, Mill Hill, Golders Green, Friern Barnet and Finchley North. It has put forward the idea of teaming up with the local council on the development of these hotels, which form part of its Plans for expansion throughout the UK. Travelodge is arguing that they will grow the economy and spark regeneration in Edgware and the other areas.

It has submitted written evidence supporting this to the council, which includes the creation of jobs for roughly 150 people across the borough, as well as the potential for increased tourism and the resultant benefits for local businesses.

Among the firms that could benefit are Stationery printers in Edgware. The hotels would need regular supplies of administrative Forms to be able to run effectively and those outlets could provide them.

Speaking to This Is Local London, the chief property and development officer for Travelodge, Steve Bennett said:
“In the current climate, local authorities are under extreme pressure to invest in their economy and support regeneration projects. That is why we are today writing to Barnet Council.”

A date for the final decision from the council has not been revealed.
