Those visiting the Broadwalk Shopping Centre in Edgware during July are being given a unique opportunity to step into the shoes of people from another country, thanks to a new installation.
This installation has been called ‘Journey of Hope’ and is the result of a collaboration between the centre and the charity World Vision, which is the biggest global charity dedicated to children. It is designed to allow visitors to get an idea of what life is like for families living in Sierra Leone.
As a result of the installation, the car parking area at the centre is currently home to a couple of sizeable huts, each of which has undergone decoration to make it an accurate simulation of the dwelling place of a real-life woman and children. The idea is that those attending will have the chance to gain greater insight into the many issues faced by families from the West African country, in living from day to day.
The second hut being used in the installation is serving as a contrast to the first, showcasing how different the family’s existence could be with the help of charities around the world.
Already, a group of Edgware Primary School children have experienced the installation, where they participated in workshops and learned about Sierra Leone’s culture. It runs until the end of July.
