Assisted living flats to be built near Edgware

A number of assisted living flats are all set to be constructed near Edgware, in Borehamwood, after the planning committee for Hertsmere Borough Council gave its approval to the application.

McCarthy and Stone is the firm that is developing this project, which will see 53 flats offering assisted living facilities built. The chosen site is on Studio Way and used to be home to Avenir House. The aim behind the project is to provide elderly people in the area with a greater choice of housing – which has been identified as a need.

The regional managing director for the company, Ali Maruf, told Times Series that the firm was pleased to get the go-ahead from the council and that it was certain that the planned flats would be filling a genuine gap in the local housing market, adding:

“The number of residents aged over 65 in South West Hertfordshire is expected to grow by 65 percent, between 2013 and 2036, and by 60 percent in those aged between 75-84.”


He concluded by stating that these figures proved how vital the building of more homes for people of retirement age in the local area was. The development will feature landscaping and car parking for 30 vehicles.
