Free parking is set to be offered from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday evenings in the run up to Christmas, a gesture that Coventry City Council hopes will boost the number of people choosing to do their shopping in Coventry City Centre.
Lynette Kelly is the cabinet member for city development. She spoke to the Coventry Telegraph about the new initiative, saying:
“I am delighted that we will be able to offer free parking on Wednesday nights. It’s a great way to encourage even more people into the city to take advantage of the late night shopping in the run-up to Christmas. We have run this offer for a number of years and it has proved to be really popular with shoppers and retailers.”
There are already a number of activities that local shops in Coventry are undertaking in an attempt to entice shoppers away from out-of-town department stores or online retailers and back into the local high street. For example, advertising schemes using Banners and Flyers target customers to get them into stores and then once they are there, eye-catching point of sale collateral is strategically placed to encourage shoppers to spend more or to up-sell other products. Any additional sales boost business and help the local economy to become stronger, making a real case for investing in advertising and POS printing.
