This proposal is for the historic municipal building St Mary’s Guildhall, which is located on Bayley Lane. The idea of making entry to the building free comes from local councillor Mattie Heaven, and it is all about encouraging more people to visit. She raised the idea at a recent meeting of Coventry City Council, where it was greeted with approval. Next, a formal plan needs to be put together so it can be voted on.
The feeling is that getting rid of entry charges for the guildhall will make it seem more accessible to both residents and visitors. According to the Coventry Telegraph, the motion put forward by Heaven said:
“The council further believes that free entry would promote civic pride, support tourism, increase city centre footfall and help make Coventry a more welcoming city.”
When it comes to the promotion of attractions, the council has the option of using Coventry shops that offer brochure printing. Brochures can provide people with information about the attractions.
Heaven pointed out during the council meeting that St Mary’s Guildhall is struggling with operating costs at the moment. Therefore, a rethink is urgently needed.
