Chenine Bhathena has been selected to be the Creative Director of UK City of Culture 2021. Print shops in Coventry can be used to promote events. Bhathena has been employed by the Greater London Authority in the past and has ample experience. She wants Coventry to have a memorable year in the spotlight. Bhathena told the Coventry Telegraph:
“I’ve been producing and commissioning work with a range of artists for 25 years. I’ve recently spearheaded the Mayor of London’s new London Borough of Culture competition, as well as leading the Mayor’s programme for the London 2012 Festival, where I delivered the biggest outdoor festival ever seen in the capital, delivering brilliant events across the 32 London boroughs and the City of London.”
David Burbidge is the chair at the Coventry City of Culture Trust. He explained how important the role of Creative Director is to the team. He stated that the quality of the applicants for the position was really high. It is believed that over 40 candidates applied for the post.
Councillor George Duggins, the leader at Coventry City Council, praised the appointment of Bhathena. He is eager for cultural policy to drive mass participation and boost civic pride.
